Goals and Aims

At the Brown School's Center for Violence and Injury Prevention, our goal is to advance evidence-based practice in:

  • the primary prevention of violence among young            Young Family                               families, and
  • intervention for childhood victims of violence to prevent potential later perpetration of violence toward themselves or others as they transition to adulthood.

Our specific aims are to:
  • advance the scientific base for prevention, harm reduction, and control of child maltreatment, intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and suicide attempts through new and translational real-world strategies,

  • advance the use of evidence by policy makers through effective dissemination of findings and improving capacity to use research related to prevention of child maltreatment, intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and suicide attempts,

  • advance the ways of communicating research findings to and improving training of existing practitioners to increase the use of effective prevention approaches, and

  • develop/implement a transdisciplinary training program to prepare future public health, social work, law, and medical providers and researchers.
