Comprehensive Approach to Unmet Mental Health Needs of Preschool Children in Foster Care

Young children in foster care are often beset with serious and multiple unmet mental health needs. For specific cases deemed likely by the St. Louis Family Court to involve a child psychiatric condition or parental psychiatric condition that would seriously compromise successful reunification or substantially raise risk for recidivism of child maltreatment if reunification were to occur, the Court would order the integration of supplemental doctoral-level mental health consultation for the foster care team, for which any unreimburseable costs (eg. via Medicaid) would be supported by this grant mechanism.
